Frequently Asked Questions
The short answer is — any age! Dance can be enjoyed by and provides many benefits for people of all ages. It is essential to find a class that is welcoming to beginners. Look for a class that is taught by a warm and welcoming instructor — someone that will be invested in your child’s progress every step of the way. Give us a call or sign up for a trial lesson and we’ll be happy to help you find the perfect class.
Dance classes can be a great introduction to group learning, but it’s important to find an experienced teacher that is patient with little dancers. It’s perfectly normal for a child to watch the class before joining in and we always encourage caregivers to be patient and allow the child to go at their own pace. All of our instructors are experienced with little dancers and follow age appropriate guidelines. A free trial class is always available for this reason so there is no pressure to begin participating fully right away.
A dancer’s motivation to persist with the demands of dance training is directly related to how well their unique needs at their stage of development are being met. We offer four separate levels for the early years for this reason and four distinct levels for our older children’s dance programs. Teens and advanced dancers have their own dreams and goals that need to be nurtured and honoured. Friendship, skill building, artistry and performance are all key and must be managed with the unique needs of the dancers in mind at each stage of their journey. Our team puts forth tremendous effort all throughout the year to make sure all of our dancers are staying motivated and challenged!
Each of our classes has a uniform. This helps to keep the focus on the student’s dancing and not on what they are wearing. Uniforms are chosen with the dancer’s safety and comfort in mind. Different styles of dance require different types of shoes and attire. For your convenience, simply see us at the front desk and one of our awesome staff members will be happy to help you find the correct gear.
Mastery of any dance style takes years of commitment and hard work. This is why healthy developmentally appropriate learning goals are so important each step of the way.
Early Years dance classes follow the Discover Dance – Ballet curriculum (Levels 1-4) and the Acro classes are taught according to the Acrobatic Arts Pre-School/Primary syllabus levels.
Our ballet classes follow the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance which sets the standard for ballet training worldwide. Jazz, Lyrical Contemporary and Tap styles follow the ADAPT syllabus. Acro classes follow the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus to ensure dancers are always working safely towards the next stage of their physical and artistic development.
How long it takes for dancers to move through the syllabus depends on their commitment and the number of hours per week they spend training. Particularly committed and talented dancers are invited to apply to our competitive Dance Team to ensure they are given extra challenges and achieve a higher level of proficiency at a faster pace.
Yes! Performing is “The Pointe”! Each winter our students showcase their progress during Performance Week. In June even our youngest dancers perform in their own onsite Early Years Recitals that are low cost and stress free for young families. Dancers 6 years old and up perform at our Annual Recitals in June, held at a large local auditorium. We work hard to make sure each and every dancer has the opportunity to shine on stage!
